THINGS ONLY DIRECTIONERS WOULD UNDERSTAND

The amount of sleep that we lost when One Direction were together because of the fear that Liam Payne was going to go live is insane. These were usually random so there was no telling when it would happen, so sleep was usually a risk. It amazes me that we still went to work and did normal things running on this little bit of sleep. These live streams were so much fun though and really made us feel as though they appreciated us fans. One of the most memorable ones was when Liam came on after they won the Brit award to thank all of us.

INSIDE JOKES

Oh gosh, how can we forget the endless jokes that are associated with One Direction. โ€œI like girls who eat carrotsโ€, โ€œHow many Rโ€™s?โ€, โ€œHoran the world? Curlsโ€ are just a few random things that are triggering for anyone who was a fan of One Direction back in the day. One of the most ridiculous, but memorable thing we would do was go on Omegle.com to try to find directioners. We would ask โ€œHoran the world?โ€ and if they answered โ€œcurlsโ€ then we knew they were a true fan. This was something that was usually done on Tumblr and the reward for finding someone would be a self promo. I canโ€™t believe this was our life at one point.

TUMBLR

(Pictured: Jaclyn and Marcellas Tumblr called shotswith1d)

Whenever we think back to the days when One Direction were still together, we think of tumblr, more specifically, 2012 tumblr. If you werenโ€™t a fan of One Direction during this year you probably know exactly what weโ€™re talking about. We still remember seeing the endless scrolling of that blue feed as we sat on our beds blasting their music as the birds chirped outside the window at 5 am. It was the summer of One Direction for us. The night would start by going through the dash and liking edits of the boys, then we would host a rate my blog, maybe change our layout or get a new cursor for our mouse. Its hard to tell in the picture, but ours says โ€œsex with one directionโ€ and has little sparkles coming out when you move it. The frustration we would feel trying to compile the codes to get a new layout and theme, or if we were posting too much and got post limit early on in the night. It haunts us to this day that we canโ€™t figure out the login for this account so that we can rejoin the tumblr world as One Direction (hopefully) make their comeback this year.

CAMPING OUT

One of our all time favorite experiences was when we camped out for One Direction on the Today Show. Weโ€™re from New Jersey, so luckily when the boys were in the city for promotion or shows, we would pretty much drop everything and be there. The amount of times we called out of work or cancelled plans is concerning, but ya know, priorities. So when we heard they would be on the Today Show, we knew we had to be there. We packed our bags, brought a train ticket and headed super early the morning before the show was scheduled. When we got there the line was already pretty long and around the corner, but we settled in and prepared to wait all day and night for them. More and more people showed up and joined the ever growing line as the day went on and random people asked what we were waiting for. That was something that got annoying when youโ€™re on hour ten of waiting and the 200th person asks why youโ€™re sitting on the streets of New York City along with another thousand fans. As day turned into night the security but barricades around and created little groups of people so that we werenโ€™t in a formal line anymore. This was when the fun began and we made so many friends, it was like a giant directioner sleepover party. We ordered pizza to the street and ate dinner together, played cards, sang songs, and counted the hours until The Today Show began. Around five in the morning they moved the line to the area where the stage is and we had to stand close together to one another and basically just wait until the soundcheck started. Of course in that moment it began to rain as we were waiting. We did not bring an umbrella. 4 am Jaclyn and Marcella were not concerned about this possibility when they packed their overnight bags. The rain didnโ€™t matter when the show started though, and as soon as they came out all the waiting was one hundred percent worth it. It was a wild and crazy night but we would for sure do it again and hope we get that opportunity to stay up all night again for them.

ย

WAITING OUTSIDE OF BUILDINGS

So, some may say seeking the boys out while they are doing promo or waiting outside the hotel for them to leave is stalking. And thatโ€™s a valid argument. However, we liked to think of it as..exploring (in the hopes we will happen to run into one of them.) One of the best things about this was making friends who also were waiting outside of buildings in New York City hoping to get even a glimpse of One Direction. This was so frequent at one point that everyone started to recognize and remember each other the next time there was promo going on or they were in town. We loved being a part of the New York City directioners. We were all working towards the same end goal and even if we didnโ€™t get to meet them, we still had fun and made friends. We camped out for so many hours outside of the London hotel in the city that we made friends with the security. Sometimes there would be a few people waiting, sometimes hundreds. We made connections with paparazzi, knowing they would have the inside scoop on where One Direction were going next for promo. We had at least three different paps numbers in our phones that year. It was a wild time. One of our most memorable times outside the hotel was the day they were in town for the Today Show. We had just woken up after falling asleep in a random Mcdonalds (dont judge, we hadnโ€™t slept in 2 days) and rushed to the London hotel. The timing was amazing because as soon as we walked up they all came out and were greeting fans. The excitement when something like that happens is incredible. Some may think it is a weird thing to do, but only directioners or people who are die hard fans of something understand how much happiness this brings to us.

ย

While we love and support all of One Directionโ€™s solo careers, we are anxiously awaiting their hiatus to be over and have high hopes that weโ€™ll get to see these boys back together again soon!

Historical Romance: Beginners Guide

If youโ€™re looking for a fairytale getaway, or youโ€™re looking to dip your toes into another time period, then a historical romance is the way to go! Historical romances can be intimidating to start for some people. Will it be boring? Is there going to be too much history and not enough romance? Am I going to understand it? If youโ€™re looking for a fairytale getaway, or youโ€™re looking to dip your toes into another time period, then a historical romance is the way to go! Historical romances can be intimidating to start for some people. Will it be boring? Is there going to be too much history and not enough romance? Am I going to understand it? These are some common questions people ponder before picking up that bodice ripping cover.

One of things to remember is that yes there will be some history- youโ€™re being transported to another time and of course youโ€™re going to learn a bit about it. But you wonโ€™t realize youโ€™re learning until you take a step back and all of a sudden you have this vast knowledge of what it was like for people during this time period! Now you know about balls, carriages, rakes, clubs, wallflowers, spinsters, the ton, and the proper way people were told to act to meet up to the societal standards of the time.

Donโ€™t fear though, just because you are learning about the time period doesnโ€™t mean that the romance takes a backseat. In fact, most of the time the romances can be extremely steamy, filled with built up tension and a lot of heartful and sweet moments. Many times because of the rules that society had set during that time period, certain moments like hand holding or even being in private together, the feelings are intensified. For example, for a woman to be found alone in a bedroom with a man was considered a scandal, her reputation in society can face ruination and most of the time, the couple have to marry; this makes for such a fun story, so much can happen!ย  The best part is, a very good portion of them end with marriage and all of them end with the happily ever after that romance lovers rely on. No matter what is happening, there is such a safety in knowing that everything is going to be okay by the time you reach the end. Itโ€™s about the journey and that moment when youโ€™re reading and you have no idea how the author is going to pull it off that makes it so worthwhile.

Historical romances can take place anywhere in the world, however the most popular places are London and Scotland. Here are five great places to start!

ย ย  The Wallflowers Series by Lisa Kleypas

https://book-scents.com/2015/07/08/series-review-the-wallflowers-by-lisa-kleypas/

ย

ย

Such a fan favorite and heartwarming series!! This is set with a backdrop of England in the 1800s with four girls who are considered โ€œWallflowersโ€. This means that theyโ€™re the ones on the side of the ballroom, who never get asked to dance, and are typically considered to be introverted and different from the rest of society. Our story starts when the four of them become friends and are determined to find each other a husband to live happily ever after with. Each book follows each girls love story and features a wonderful, witty cast of characters and different tropes. My personal favorite is Devil in Winter, but I love each and every one! The friendship aspect is so rare to witness and so incredibly sweet. The romances are sizzling and itโ€™s truly a beautiful series. Theyโ€™re the perfect binge series for historical romance!

When A Scot Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare

http://addictedtoromance.org/books/when-a-scot-ties-the-knot-by-tessa-dare/

ย

ย

When a Scot Ties the Knot is a part of Tessa Dares, Castle Ever After series but you donโ€™t need to read them in order, each one stands completely on its own! The premise for each book follows a strong woman who inherits their own castle and thatโ€™s where the adventure begins!

ย

Here we follow Madeline who is tired of people trying to match up with someone when sheโ€™s perfectly fine on her own. Sheโ€™s introverted and just wants to go off and live in her newly inherited castle. To get people off her back, she makes up a man named Captain MacKenzie who is a brave Scottish soldier off at war who she starts sending random letters too, then eventually tells society that he passed away in battle and she is now a widow. As a widow, people would leave her alone and she could go off and do her own thing. But the story begins when she finds out Captain MacKenzie is real! Heโ€™s been getting her letters, heโ€™s practically in love with her and heโ€™s ready to marry her! Itโ€™s absolutely HILARIOUS and so much fun to read!! Itโ€™s witty and one of the things thatโ€™s so important in Tessa Dares story is the take on feminism, which is something especially appreciated for modern readers!

The Bridgertons by Julia Quinn

https://bookwyrmshoard.com/book-reviews/romancing-mister-bridgerton-and-the-bridgerton-series-by-julia-quinn-review/

ย

The Bridgertons are probably the most popular and beloved families in historical romance! The series centers around a mother and her eight children with each getting their own love story. The concept of family is so important and so heartwarming to witness. The bickering and banter that comes with sibling relationships is strong in this series and of course all of the romances are unique and stand on their own! Another interesting fact about this series is that all of siblings ‘ names follow along with the alphabet! We have Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory and Hycathin! Donโ€™t worry, itโ€™s not confusing and itโ€™s such an easy and fun series to fall completely into! Even if you donโ€™t want to read the entire series, you can pick up a random one that sounds good to you! My favorites are enemies to lovers The Viscount Who Loved Me, Cinderella retelling An Offer from a Gentleman and the childhood friends/unrequited love story in Romancing Mister Bridgerton. This series is so fantastic and so incredibly popular that itโ€™s being adapted by Shonda Rhimes on Netflix which is extremely exciting and highly anticipated! Now is definitely the time to hop on this bandwagon!

Nine Rules to Break when Romancing a Rake by Sarah Maclean

ย

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6584134-nine-rules-to-break-when-romancing-a-rake

ย

This was the first historical romance I picked up, so itโ€™s definitely a great place to start! This story follows Callie who is a headstrong heroine who is tired of following all the rules. She feels that following all the society rules has done nothing for her and she wants to break free from it all. She decides to take her life into her own hands and break them by making a list of all the things she wants to do. In society women do not fire pistols, gamble in gentleman clubs, smoke a cheroot, attend a duel, fence, or ride astride; But to have the midnight kisses and dance every dance at the ball, she needs a sneaky partner in crime. She enlists the rakish (play boyish figure) Marquess, Gabriel to help her break them all! Unbeknownst to them, they fall in love and itโ€™s beautiful!! Callie is such a strong and powerful character to follow and very relatable! Itโ€™s so heartwarming watching these two unlikely characters fall in love while finding themselves. Itโ€™s steamy, easy to read, and I highly recommend giving Sarah Maclean a chance! Her books are addicting to read!

ย

The Highwayman by Kerrigan Byrne

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/23723798-the-highwayman

ย

Kerrigan Byrne is a recent discovery for me and she’s quickly become a fast favorite! This series is different from other recommendations on this listย  and itโ€™s a bit on the darker and edgier side. I was left speechless when I finished! Dorian Blackwell is a dark hero who was in prison and vows to seek revenge on those who have wronged him, heโ€™s powerful and has so much depth the more you dive into his back story, I cried! The heroine is a widowed woman named Farah who lost her โ€œhusbandโ€ when she was a child and the boy she loved saved her. These two spark an alliance where Dorian marries her for protection while in exchange she reveals the secrets he needs to find those who did him wrong all those years ago. I donโ€™t want to give too much away but this book is heart wrenching, swoon worthy, action packedย  and so addicting to read! Highly recommend you give this a shot!
