THINGS ONLY DIRECTIONERS WOULD UNDERSTAND

The amount of sleep that we lost when One Direction were together because of the fear that Liam Payne was going to go live is insane. These were usually random so there was no telling when it would happen, so sleep was usually a risk. It amazes me that we still went to work and did normal things running on this little bit of sleep. These live streams were so much fun though and really made us feel as though they appreciated us fans. One of the most memorable ones was when Liam came on after they won the Brit award to thank all of us.

INSIDE JOKES

Oh gosh, how can we forget the endless jokes that are associated with One Direction. “I like girls who eat carrots”, “How many R’s?”, “Horan the world? Curls” are just a few random things that are triggering for anyone who was a fan of One Direction back in the day. One of the most ridiculous, but memorable thing we would do was go on Omegle.com to try to find directioners. We would ask “Horan the world?” and if they answered “curls” then we knew they were a true fan. This was something that was usually done on Tumblr and the reward for finding someone would be a self promo. I can’t believe this was our life at one point.

TUMBLR

(Pictured: Jaclyn and Marcellas Tumblr called shotswith1d)

Whenever we think back to the days when One Direction were still together, we think of tumblr, more specifically, 2012 tumblr. If you weren’t a fan of One Direction during this year you probably know exactly what we’re talking about. We still remember seeing the endless scrolling of that blue feed as we sat on our beds blasting their music as the birds chirped outside the window at 5 am. It was the summer of One Direction for us. The night would start by going through the dash and liking edits of the boys, then we would host a rate my blog, maybe change our layout or get a new cursor for our mouse. Its hard to tell in the picture, but ours says “sex with one direction” and has little sparkles coming out when you move it. The frustration we would feel trying to compile the codes to get a new layout and theme, or if we were posting too much and got post limit early on in the night. It haunts us to this day that we can’t figure out the login for this account so that we can rejoin the tumblr world as One Direction (hopefully) make their comeback this year.

CAMPING OUT

One of our all time favorite experiences was when we camped out for One Direction on the Today Show. We’re from New Jersey, so luckily when the boys were in the city for promotion or shows, we would pretty much drop everything and be there. The amount of times we called out of work or cancelled plans is concerning, but ya know, priorities. So when we heard they would be on the Today Show, we knew we had to be there. We packed our bags, brought a train ticket and headed super early the morning before the show was scheduled. When we got there the line was already pretty long and around the corner, but we settled in and prepared to wait all day and night for them. More and more people showed up and joined the ever growing line as the day went on and random people asked what we were waiting for. That was something that got annoying when you’re on hour ten of waiting and the 200th person asks why you’re sitting on the streets of New York City along with another thousand fans. As day turned into night the security but barricades around and created little groups of people so that we weren’t in a formal line anymore. This was when the fun began and we made so many friends, it was like a giant directioner sleepover party. We ordered pizza to the street and ate dinner together, played cards, sang songs, and counted the hours until The Today Show began. Around five in the morning they moved the line to the area where the stage is and we had to stand close together to one another and basically just wait until the soundcheck started. Of course in that moment it began to rain as we were waiting. We did not bring an umbrella. 4 am Jaclyn and Marcella were not concerned about this possibility when they packed their overnight bags. The rain didn’t matter when the show started though, and as soon as they came out all the waiting was one hundred percent worth it. It was a wild and crazy night but we would for sure do it again and hope we get that opportunity to stay up all night again for them.

WAITING OUTSIDE OF BUILDINGS

So, some may say seeking the boys out while they are doing promo or waiting outside the hotel for them to leave is stalking. And that’s a valid argument. However, we liked to think of it as..exploring (in the hopes we will happen to run into one of them.) One of the best things about this was making friends who also were waiting outside of buildings in New York City hoping to get even a glimpse of One Direction. This was so frequent at one point that everyone started to recognize and remember each other the next time there was promo going on or they were in town. We loved being a part of the New York City directioners. We were all working towards the same end goal and even if we didn’t get to meet them, we still had fun and made friends. We camped out for so many hours outside of the London hotel in the city that we made friends with the security. Sometimes there would be a few people waiting, sometimes hundreds. We made connections with paparazzi, knowing they would have the inside scoop on where One Direction were going next for promo. We had at least three different paps numbers in our phones that year. It was a wild time. One of our most memorable times outside the hotel was the day they were in town for the Today Show. We had just woken up after falling asleep in a random Mcdonalds (dont judge, we hadn’t slept in 2 days) and rushed to the London hotel. The timing was amazing because as soon as we walked up they all came out and were greeting fans. The excitement when something like that happens is incredible. Some may think it is a weird thing to do, but only directioners or people who are die hard fans of something understand how much happiness this brings to us.

While we love and support all of One Direction’s solo careers, we are anxiously awaiting their hiatus to be over and have high hopes that we’ll get to see these boys back together again soon!
