Design System from Scratch
While working as the Director of UX @ Progrexion the product was evolving rapidly and our user experience work was becoming a key differentiator in the market. The demand for better UX put immense pressure on our designers as we were compelled to take on more projects and work faster, while still delivering higher-quality products. We saw this creating problems, so we decided we needed a standardized design language to pull from.
Our old system didn’t scale easily. Among the team we had many new ideas for color palettes, typography, and patterns for the the product, which lead to inconsistency and increased maintenance cost. Every new hire increased the design entropy. We decided it was worth the investment to start building a design system to help us scale as a UX org. We thought of it as the same set of instructions and Lego kit for for each of our designers and developers.
One of the unique challenges is that at Progrexion we were responsible for 3 different brands. Lexington Law, Credit.com, & CreditRepair.com. All 3 brands had different design styles and design needs, so we needed to create a separate design system for each.
